Just a heads up, I didn't go to MMU (I attended UWE) but did do the Foundation in Biomedical Science (went on to get my MSc in the same subject but specialised in Clinical Biochemistry)

I found the Foundation year to be very helpful as, to put it bluntly, it was fairly easy content but did allow me to learn about a new city and learn my way around the university's systems in a calm environment i.e. I'm not stressing about learning a whole load of new academic content (it was far easier than A Levels IMO as I always say this and always will do, A Levels were the hardest things I have ever done in my life!).

I don't know if you are a local to the area or if you are moving there but use the time there during your Foundation year (if you found it as easy as I did) to get to know your area. I won't explain the course as I don't know MMU's course but I am speaking generally. Also, use this year to try and find people who you want to live with so you can support each other (not gonna lie, there are times when you want to kill your housemates but it's part of life) as most student accomodation starts being advertised in November/December so join societies, meet people at uni etc... and get moving as the cheap accomodation goes quickly.

So yes, I would say it's worth it as you will have a leg up when you get to first year on knowing how to use the university's systems (whatever online system they use), know your way around the place and make it easier on yourself when the real course starts (including how to cite and reference in your work which is worth 5% of each piece of work, at least mine was at UWE which can easily take you from one classification to another)!

Good luck!

Hi!

You can find out loads about our Biomedical Science course by attending one of our offer holder visit days, which will take place in February, March and April this year. These visit days are available to students who have applied to a course with us and are currently holding an offer, and they give you a great chance to speak with lecturers, tour facilities, and speak with current students to get a feel for the course. If you do decide to apply to the course, keep an eye on your emails for an invite to one of these events!

If you are interested in exploring your course options or discussing student life with some of our students, you can reach out and chat to them via our Unibuddy platform. The option to speak to one of our friendly Student Ambassadors should appear on-screen when you are visiting any of our web pages. Alternatively, you can choose from the full list of our ambassadors by clicking the link here: https://www.mmu.ac.uk/chat-with-us-unibuddy.

I hope this helps! 😊
