Year 12, 4-Alevels: Maths, Further Maths, English & Physics

Hi, just wondering if anyone has any input. I'm currently studying 4 A-Levels and beginning to drown in work. I am already busy in my personal life: I tutor for work 3x a week, play for a football team, am in a theatre group and choir. It's alot. I also want to apply for Oxford in the Autumn Term to study Physics and Philosophy. I'm just wondering- is it worth it to keep up with further maths? Has it helped others maths A-level? Will dropping it jeopardise my chance at Oxford? I do have pretty good time management and got eight 9s and two 8s at GCSE, I'm good at exams, but I'm just wondering if it is worth the struggle. I also have a social life, so it's all super hard to balance. Any advice would be soooo appreciated.

Heyy! Im gonna be so so honest, i dont think oxford care about having 4 a levels. As long as you have sufficient grades in appropriate a levels and ofc the extracurriculars etc you should be good to go!
I think if you really enjoy further maths then you should carry on, but to be so honest if you're struggling with workload then maybe its time to let it go.
If you're really worried ab UCAS points, maybe take a look at doing an EPQ if thats something your school offers.
Please do let me know if i can help with anything!!))

Hi, Year 13 here! I did 4 AS Levels in Year 12 (Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Politics), and I dropped my Politics before going into Year 13 due to the workload. My advice is to do what is best for you. If you are struggling with the workload, I would recommend dropping whichever subject is making it the worst.
Physics and Philosophy at Oxford doesn't require Further Maths so you would be okay to drop this as an A-Level. Your A* can be in either Physics or Maths!
As for helping with the other Maths A-Level, I am surprisingly doing better in my Further Maths course at the moment?! Further Maths builds on Maths knowledge for Pure (and the Applied honestly depends on your College). If anything, Further Maths Mechanics has only helped me in Physics.
It's understandable that it's hard to balance, you've picked some very challenging subjects! Based on what you got in your GCSE's, I'm sure you'll be able to smash your A-Levels. It's a lot of work - it's just going to take a bit of time to get settled a bit more.
All in all, if you think it will help you, dropping Further Maths may be the best option. Definitely speak to a tutor first, though, to see if the can offer any advice.
Good luck on your studies!

Further maths wont make a difference to your application but it will help you in the first year of your degree because youll already have an introduction to some of the maths youll be taught. If you drop fm its probably a good idea to self-study the pure and mech content over the summer before starting a physics-related degree.
