Alevels decision as in yr13 and uni

Hi, i take sociology, psychology and biology alevel and currently in yr13. i have already sent of my ucuas and got offers however im really considering dropping bio or taking it to a level then continuing sociology and psychology as alevel as i definetly think i will fail bio and it will limit my chances of doing good in my other two subjects.
i want to go to nottingham to do animal science however they need biology and alevel BBC if i make it my firm.
ive spoke to my teacher about it and they said i can go down to two alevels and As however not much ucuas points and unis will be limited
i’m struggling what to do as stress affects me so bad especially how alevels are in a few months.
what’s the best option?
if i did a foundation year at one uni then transfer to nottingham’s is that possible? and also which unis and what course is recommended in order to transfer to notts?

Doing 2 a levels and an AS level will really limit your options. You would have to contact all the unis which have given you offers already and see if they will still give you an offer- if their requirements are 3 a level grades (like BBC) then you wouldnt meet the conditions for an offer. If you have any offers which accept ucas points rather than having a strict grade requirement then you may still be eligible for an offer from these unis. You could go through clearing and perhaps get onto a foundation year course then see if Nottingham would accept you to transfer to first year after completing a foundation year at another uni but you would have to apply again via ucas.

Good afternoon.

Pleased to see you are considering a future at our university, and there may well be a route to what you want, I think.

If you want to study at Nottingham straightaway, then it might be that you look to apply to our own Foundation Year, which offers a route onto the Animal Science degree.

Science with Foundation Year BSc (Hons) | University of Nottingham

Although the offer level for this course is BBC for a student who's taken Biology, you may find that we are able to show a little flexibility on this if you don't quite reach the grades we ask for. No promises, but it's quite commonly the case when we receive results in the Summer.

Further to this, you may well be able to apply to transfer onto the Animal Sciences degree using a Foundation Year taken somewhere else - if you want to write in with details of that course (please email [email protected]) then we can let you know if it's suitable for entry.

Whilst it's true that we operate on the basis of three subjects and a specifically graded offer, rather than a tariff, there are these other routes onto getting a place on the degree course you are after.

If you want to change your target course - just send an email to the same address I put down above. We'll do the rest, very happily. Try not to worry - there's more than one way to getting where you want to be, even if things seem a bit tricky right now.

All best,

Hi @kellyy- hope things are going okay.🙂 I'm sorry it's a difficult time at the moment. A-Levels are stressful, so it's more than okay to feel how you do right now. Is there any support your school or college can provide?🏢

At Nottingham, we can unfortunately only make offers from 3 full A-Level qualifications, or equivalent. However, if you would like your current application to be considered for the Science with Foundation Year, please fill out our enquiry form (you can find this by pressing 'Make an Enquiry' on our 'Contact Us' page). As long as you make it clear that you would like to change from your current course, to Science with Foundation Year, our Admissions team will consider your request.

P.S Please make sure that the email address you use on the Enquiry form is the same email as your UCAS application.🙂 If you have any other questions, please do ask. Hope things go okay!

Hi Chris, thanks for reaching back. Is the science in foundation only eligible for 3 Alevels? Or could i still be considered with 2 Alevels and As biology? Thanks

Hi @kellyy-

I'm afraid that, as my colleague has pointed out, you will need to gather together three A Levels (or an equivalent to that made up of A Levels/other qualifications) to be able to make an application. If that's looking like too much of a challenge right now, you can of course spend another year studying something else to make the total up to three, and then apply. That might suit you better, maybe - to spread the load on yourself, somewhat? Nobody says you have to go to University immediately, and we have multiples of students studying with us after gap years where they have studied something else that suited them better, first.

Hi @Kellyy

If you are taking a foundation course, we would need to see the course syllabus before we could advise. You are welcome to complete an enquiry form so we can give you specific information to meet your individual circumstances. For foundation years, we still require 3 A levels.

Hope this helps 🙂
