choosing between KCL, Bath and Liverpool for biomed

i’m an applicant for 2026 entry and am really struggling to choose between my 5 UCAS choices.
KCL have offered me a place for their biomedical science course and i did really like the campus and the fact that it’s so recognised for its research. i love the course structure too, since there’s different “streams” to go down after 1st year. the main thing i’m worried about is finances/accom, since i was also hoping to do a year abroad/in industry (and the fact that it’s not an msci), but i’m afraid i’d regret rejecting such a “prestige” uni, especially w such good grad prospects.

Uni of Bath is also ranked rlly high for grad prospects and for biomed in general and the city looks really nice too. i’ve not spoken to anyone who actually goes there for biomed though, and i’m also worried about finances (for the same reason as KCL).

Uni of Liverpool have also offered me a place for their MSci and their course structure seems really good and i like the look of the modules. i also rlly like the city, but it’s not as highly ranked/recognised, so i’m kind of worried about grad prospects/post grad.

i also have offers from warwick and birmingham, but i’d say the ones i’ve spoken about are the ones i’m having most difficulty choosing between. any advice would be much appreciated

(also liverpool is the only one where i’d know somebody else going to the uni, so ig that’s also an influence, but idk if basing my uni choice on that is a good decision)

Congrats on all the offers - you have some good options.

The good news is that you don't have to make your firm/insurance decisions until May so you have time to go to offer-holder days before you decide. Offer-holder days are highly recommended to get a much deeper insight into the course and department.

A few things to think about:

- you need to choose the course that really interests you so compare the modules and optional modules in detail. You seem to have done this but it might be worth thinking about what options you would pick if you went there

- a uni's reputation counts for little to employers. What does count is a good grade (2.1 or above) and work experience, therefore courses offering a placement year or study abroad opportunities can add a lot to your graduate CV

- if you heart is set on doing a masters, an integrated masters is much better funded than a stand-alone masters courses. An integrated masters is treated as an extension of the undergrad course for funding, so you would continue to receive both a tuition fee loan and a maintenance loan for the additional year. A stand-alone masters is only eligible postgraduate loan which is a single payment of just under £13k. It is not enough to cover course fees and living costs.

Try not to let the fact that you know someone going to Liverpool influence your choice of uni. The majority of students won't know anyone when they start uni so you will all be in the position of needing to make new friends.

So, as an employer I am far less bothered on which university someone went to than what they did with their time.

I would say you also have got a huge range of locations there. Where do you want to live? Do you like all those places? You don't want to be desperately unhappy.

Work experience is very important for job prospects so a year in industry is sensible if available.

And as has been said- don't make your decision based on someone else's. It's your life to progress. And what if you pick Liverpool for them and they change their mind/decide not to go/don't get the grades etc?
