Durham Offer

Hello! So today I received great news about my application and have an offer from Durham, subject to conditions.

I applied via an Access course and was eligible for a contextual offer, but my only worry is that the offer states that alongside those specific grades in my access course, that I need a Grade 4/C in GCSE Maths. Due to circumstances, I didn't take my GCSE's as I left education at 15. This meant that I took Level 2 Functional skills instead, which is considered to be a Grade 4 Equivalent for GCSE.

I’m wondering if this will be an issue or not, or if it's just standard wording and they do indeed accept the equivalent.

If any further contexts helps, I'm 22 years old which makes me a mature learner and this is my first year back in education since 2019.

Any advice will be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi there! Equivalent qualifications should be accepted, but if you’re worried I’d really recommend sending a quick email to Durham applications to make sure. You should be fine though!

Hi, I'd like to ask what course you're applying for and what process you've gone through, such as interviews or assessments? I'm currently applying for Economics with Foundation at Durham University. I have GCSEs but I'm not taking A-levels; instead, I'm studying Level 3 in Beauty. I want to continue my university studies but I'm really worried about whether I'll be accepted 😭

Hey, I'm applying for the psychology course. All I did was apply on UCAS and I'm currently doing an Access to HE course in Humanities & Social Sciences. There was no interview or assessment needed alongside my offer, just need to get 15 Distinctions and the rest of the credits at atleast a merit due to my circumstances allowing a contexual offer, which sort of makes me guarenteed to reach the terms of my offer, as long as the GCSE equivalent will be accepted. I'm unsure if a Level 3 in Beauty is enough, probably best to speak to your tutors about that. Google says that it's equivalent to around 2 A-Levels but don't quote me on that.

Hello!

The best course of action I'd say is to contact Durham enquiries directly through the website (if you haven't already!) You can check that out here!

Hope this helps somewhat!
