Uni of Edinburgh or Bristol as a working class northerner?

So I’ve heard both institutions are pretty elitist (Edinburgh more so), but I love the cities. I’d be on full maintenance loan but my savings would be at max £4000. Which is more suitable?

I’m doing an English BA so prestige doesn’t matter that much.

Well, firstly both unis are great. Edinburgh is definitely the more prestigious and better at social life, culture, and maybe even school quality because you'd be an arts and humanities student. But edinburgh is 4 years and bristol is 3. I'd really consider that to be one of the major deciders if you're worried about logistics.

Also it widely depends on what you want with your career in the future. I'd guess bristol has better career prospects but I can't lie i dont know anything about english majors.

As a current undergraduate at Edinburgh, the cost of first year accommodation is through the roof. It really adds up when you think about essentials like food toiletries. And if you plan to go out while at university, that can get pretty expensive in Edinburgh. As said in the other reply, 4 years at uni is obviously going to be more costly than 3 years. Since you'd be in the position where you'd have to pay tuition fees, it's worth considering whether you want to eventually have to end up paying for 3 or 4. (Personally, as a Scot, that was not a decision I had to make since my fees are covered)
