Firm/Insurance and Clearing questions

Hi, I’m confused about Clearing and firm/insurance choices. Do I have to pick a firm and insurance in May if I might go through Clearing? On results day, do I need to decline my firm offer to get a Clearing place, or can I get a Clearing offer while still holding it, as I do not want to lose any of my university offers/places? Any advice would be really appreciated!

Hi @runcode

You can pick a firm and insurance choice, and it might be best to do this as it will keep those universities as an option. On results day, if you decide to go through Clearing you would typically need to call up the university that you want to apply for and make an application. Once they have given you a provisional offer you would then need to decline your other offers to release yourself into Clearing before adding the new university as your choice.

You can get more information about clearing by clicking this link: https://bit.ly/3TNG4S7 which will take you to the clearing page of the BCU website.

Hope this helps and let me know if you have any other questions!

Hi @runcode ,

Those are great questions! 😊

As the other commentor has stated, yes you should still put forward your insurance and firm choices, even if you decide not to go there by the time results day hits. If you are interested in alternative options, consider entering clearing prior to results day to see which universities may make you an offer.

If you decide to enter clearing, you can call up universities and get a verbal offer before rejecting your firm or insurance choice. However you must reject this offer before the official clearing offer can be accepted. You will find those on clearing phonelines may guide you through this process, so don't let this worry you, there are plenty of people ready to help!

I hope this helps, please feel free to ask me any questions,
