They do matter but they always contextualise your GCSEs in comparison to the average of your school. If it is quite common for your school to get such grades because it has good quality of teaching, it's not as impressive. But if you came from a school that doesn't achieve that high because it is less good, your GCSEs will stand out more.

Either way, well done for achieving such grades! You should be proud of yourself regardless 💕

Thank you, I know they are great but I could've done better considering my mock grades in science where 988 and in the actual exams I got 777 :frown:( and I want to do a stem degree. If my school on average has low/ok results but my year was the highest, would that also increase my chances of getting an offer?

Oxford contextualises your GCSEs to schools of a similar profile to yours not just to your school. They use progress 8 as the measurement as all schools have a progress 8 measure as defined by the DoE.

i think you still have a good chance if ur personal statement and predicted grades are good, but i think Cambridge cares less ab GCSEs than Oxford so you might have a better chance there

it depends on what school you attended and how they perform as a whole. i got much lower gcses than you but went to a low performing secondary school and i still got a cambridge interview
