Bath or York uni for biology

Hi, I'm trying to decide which uni to firm, Bath or York for biology bsc.
The Bath course includes a placement year whereas York I would have to work harder to find one and it's less guaranteed. But, York has a better biology department and is a Russel group, although Bath is higher in rankings.
I like both so I really can't figure out which one is a better choice
I also don't know much about both in terms of socially, what the people who go there are like, so
If anyone studies at either university or knows about them and the courses please could you give me any information/advice that could help my decision

Your priority should be the course content. Compare the modules and optional modules for all years of the course; which modules would you choose, does one course stand out above the other? Are there options to study overseas for a while?

Bath has a good reputation for its placement programme, but if you prefer the course at York then it is worth investigating the opportunities there further. Rankings don't matter and the uni you go to won't be a concern for a future employer.

York and Bath are both historic cities of a similar size. Accommodation in Bath is very expensive so this might be a concern for you. Have you managed to visit the unis or are you an international student? If a home student, do try to go the the offer-holder days.

Hi!
As has already been suggested, going to an offer holder/ applicant day is a really good idea! That’s how I ended up deciding where I wanted to go, it gives you a really good feel for what studying at the unis will be like!
I’m also an ecology and conservation student, so feel free to ask me any questions about what it’s like to study biology at uni!
Good luck!

Hi there 😊

I'm a current pharmacy student at Bath and although I don't do biology, I can offer some insight to what it is like at Bath.

Bath has a great reputation for its placements and each department has their own placement team which is great for offering advice and interview prep etc. I think that is why the majority of student do take up a placement because of the support available during the application process.

I think any university socially is how you make of it. There are plenty of sports, societies to be involved with and each do their own social nights which can be great fun with different themes each week. This makes meeting new people fairly easy and there are many alternatives to clubbing and drinking if that is not your thing. I've been to a fair few coffee socials, events like tote bag painting so there is much to be involved with.

So for me personally I looked at course module info as this does differ from university to university, assessments, location, safety, convenience to get home. If you get the opportunity to come to an offer holder day, I would say this is a great opportunity to speak to current students and ask lecturers about the content and anything you might want to know about the course.

I hope this helps and good luck with your decision
