Mature students

Hi people

I’m Neil Parchment.

I’m 49 years old and would love to study a foundation year then Biomedical science.

Does anyone have any experience to share or advice on who /where to get some reliable answers?

Thanks a lot if anyone who replies 😃

In all honesty, there shouldn't be any issues as the Equality Act (2010) will not discriminate against you as you can't discriminate against age.

So you should absolutely be given the same chance as anyone else. I went to UWE and done the Foundation Year and continued all the way until my Masters (albeit there was a 5 year gap between my BSc and my MSc as I thought I'd need the MSc, admittedly I don't but it was helpful).

My full story here and if you have any questions, please feel free to ask. =)

Hi Neil! I currently study Biomedical Science at London Metropolitan University and I'm in my second year. My course offers a foundation year which you can read about here!

While I didn't take the foundation year myself, many people on my course did - It's a great way to reintroduce the concepts you'll need for the next three years of your degree 🙂
London Met has a great learning environment for mature students making up almost 70% of all students!! You can read more details about this here: https://www.londonmet.ac.uk/applying/mature-students/

I really enjoy the course, myself. I found the modules fascinating and the superlab where we learn our practical skills is a great feature!

I hope this could help! Please let me know if you have any more questions.
