For what it’s worth I’ve heard they let you know fairly soon once it’s assessed. It also depends on which academic(s)’ table your proposal and app land on.
My guess as it was for my MPhil at Cam is that they’ll do it in batches even though there’s a rolling acceptance illusion.
A second thing is I’ve only heard of informal offers from supervisors so far; nothing official. If anyone actually has a department offer I’d really like to know!

by academic(s) table do you mean proposed supervisor ?

If it’s any consolation, they haven’t released Michaelmas coursework grades from the MPhil yet. So the department is just really, really slow…

Saw three interviews on gradcafe. Starting to get anxious for not getting one. 🥺 It seems like if I don't get an interview in Feb then there's little chance for funding...

Again please take this with an enormous grain of salt.
I believe I heard that the applications “land” on the desks of one or two reviewing academics/faculty. Who it lands on is determined by your research summary (not research proposal).
So previous batchmates concluded that different assessors have different levels of efficiency. (Long might be good; short might be bad; too many variables; so I choose not to care about the review time).

ok - thank you so much - this info is really helpful

I also submitted on deadline day, have yet to hear anything and portal still showing as "submitted" ... In anxious solidarity 😊

Reply 45

If it helps anyone: I have yet to hear of anyone progressing beyond submitted (in the entire faculty), even those who were interviewed this week. Seems like they’re completely forgetting to update the portal, so no need for anyone to worry.

yes also for 12 week time limit if any ( I think in cambridge there is a winter break from dec 22 to jan 5 ) so that also counts

do they take interview/nomination decisions solely - based on your academics only ( top level grades )? - or a pre-conversation with your supervisor regarding research proposal helps ?

The general consensus seems to be that they interview the people they think have the best chance at funding first... Probably more about the project and your profile than academics because at the funding shortlist stage everyone's academics are stellar

ahhh.... i seee - ok , i am under review since nov - no interview invite yet - lets hope they take interviews in feb also

If there are only 2 ahrc scholarships available, they probably only shortlisted 4 people... So I guess we'll see if they have bigger shortlists for other funding bodies? And I wonder how many offers overall they'll make (funded or not)...

Had my interview Friday but no news of Frodo since then!

Hey, has anyone heard anything else yet? I saw that there are four interviews on Gradcafe now.

Still no news following my interview on Friday. I am not sure what the timeline is between a decision and interview, as all courses seem to vary on that.

I’m also stuck on submitted a week after my interview. I know it seems to be the case for everyone but it’s getting frustrating.

I am actually curious to know if anyone knows any correlation between being shortlisted for funding and interview date. Again all the information I am receiving varies course to course and what people have 'heard' etc.

Do we know if interviews are given to all candidates?

Only applicants who are being considered for a place are interviewed
