Just been invited to an interview on Wednesday following an email from my preferred supervisor. Applied on deadline day in Jan.

Hi, does anyone know the rough timeline for hearing back following an interview?

I had my interview in the 30th and my portal changed to “Decision Pending” on the 9th of February. But I haven’t received any further news yet.

Hey, that’s good to know - thank you! Fingers crossed for both of us

No interview!

I knew when told to wait that I haven’t been rejected. I was supposed to have found out already though.

Someone on Reddit said they go through a pile sequentially. I’m not unduly worried!

My proposed supervisor is also notoriously slow.

I see… thanks! I’m not at Cambridge already so I guess people who are there get more insider information. I don’t know if that’s the case? I’m still waiting but understand it will probably take a bit more time.

(Heya folks just wanna preface this with that I’m going a bit crazy with this interface. I’ve tried posting the same reply thrice. Please forgive me if they appear suddenly and rapidly, and I will get them deleted).

Heya!

Honestly speaking, I really wouldn’t worry yet. The English department at Cambridge doesn’t torture us 😂. If you were rejected, you’d likely know, as they don’t keep people in agony willingly, and so are likely still assessing. I’d also like to say the postgraduate administrator is lovely and does ensure this.

I don’t want to comment on individual faculty, but it’s possible that your field might be popular, or conversely a bit niche and waiting to find its home, and so the assessors might take a while! Maybe you could share what it is?

In fact, I’d also like to ask everyone else what they’re focusing on if that’s alright! It’d be a lovely way to pass the wait.

I study West African literary criticism and modern critical theory!

Thank you for your reply! Really is reassuring all the information you’ve given.

Mine is niche but the supervisor I had an interview with is very interested and suits the project (nearly) perfectly. My research is early modern and quite interdisciplinary, as it focuses on palaeography but also Tudor state politics.

We actually have a strong early modern focus 😂. That explains quite a bit. There’s a lot going on there!

I don’t have the same comfort. I know roughly who’s assessing mine.

I know there’s a lot of early modern focus but my subject and methodology is niche.
