Still on DP here… any updates from anyone?

Still on "Submitted" - lol. I'm conscious that my proposal is somewhat niche. So we'll see...

Do you want to share some context like your background, grades, CV etc. to see if it's a question of competitiveness? It could also be a question of fit, you could try asking your potential supervisor for their thoughts if you'd struck up rapport with them. It sucks, I'm sorry!

I am an Indian student with 78% in my Master’s degree and 80% in my dissertation. I also have a couple of publications, including journal articles and a book chapter, along with conference presentations. In addition, I have academic achievements such as qualifying national-level competitive examinations.
At present, the situation feels somewhat ambiguous, as almost every prospective supervisor I have contacted has expressed appreciation for my research proposal. I have no more applications to look forward to this cycle. This year has been so cruel– 3 prospective supervisors have asked me to apply next year because of supervisory capacity. I'm almost unable to walk out of this uncertainty regarding securing a PhD admission.

Thank you! Of course - I was interviewed on the 11th February, and then moved to DP the day after. Sorry to hear that you haven’t heard anything since submission.

They are just so slow with things. If I have lost in the competition, why don't just tell me? We have got our life to plan, have to look for jobs if not accepted...etc. I feel like I have wasted half a year of my life, and even if I reapply, there will be a gap of at least one and a half year from now.

Huh. Seems like the Applicant Portal is down - "Not from your location" being the only notice.

I’m in the same situation - I interviewed on 11th February and my status changed to Decision Pending on 12th February, but it’s still showing DP. Could it be because this was a Lent Term application?

Hey, that's odd - my application was for Michaelmas term, so perhaps that does play a role? I really hope you're successful!

Not yet, no. From what I understand, decisions will come out across the rest of this month and April.

Regarding funding timeline and news, I found this on the PhD in English page on the Postgraduate Study website (here: https://www.postgraduate.study.cam.ac.uk/courses/directory/elelpdeng/apply)

If your application is shortlisted for funding, you will receive an offer of a place by mid-February. The majority of funding is awarded by the end of April. If your application is not shortlisted for funding, you will receive the offer decision on your application ordinarily by the end of March.

(Sad for me if true! But in any case, because it was in quite an obscure corner of a footnote of a paragraph type situation, I thought I'd paste it here as well for anyone else who missed it the first time like me. My well wishes to everyone else who did get their offer letters early though!)

I'm not entirely sure how accurate this is for this year's cycle - only because I was told by my interviewer/supervisor that I had been shortlisted for funding, but didn't receive my official offer until earlier this month (9th March). It's really hard to say, but fingers crossed for us all!

Hi everyone. This is my second time applying. I received an offer last year but no funding. Reapplied this year. Just to give you a sense of the timeline, I applied close to the deadline (a couple days before), was contacted for an interview January end, interviewed on the 2cd of Feb and received an offer on the 27th. I've confirmed from the Admissions office that I was forwarded for funding. I'm from India and my degrees didn't have a dissertation but I've got two publications in national university journals, and an article under peer review at a reputed international journal in my field. I've also been a panelist in an international conference (RGS-IGB). I also had a 9+ CGPA and have cleared national graduate level entrances. I'm just wondering what are my chances this year? I've given this a huge chunk of my life and I really need to know if something is going to happen. I know that it's unlikely for anyone to venture anything more than educated guesses but I'm really looking for a bone here. I need to know if I should move on, if I'll be disappointed and heartbroken again. Thanks to anyone who reads this and replies.

Ah, that's great to hear, then! I'm happy for you. Apologies, definitely didn't mean to spread any false information or worries on purpose. Certainly it's likely, as you said, that things might be running later this cycle. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Hey! Congrats on being put forward for funding, that's already an amazing achievement. Especially considering how fierce the competition is for international students, where you're competing with so many more students globally, for arguably a much smaller pot of money.

I know this isn't in any way an answer to what you were asking, and I'm not claiming in any way to give a useful reply, but I just thought you ought to hear it from someone else (even a stranger on the internet), that really, you've done really well already, and deserve to feel proud of yourself. I hope you have a nice day!

You're not spreading false info or worries, don't worry! I've found this whole thing to be such a mysterious, drawn out process - I figure that the more info we share, the better it'll be for anyone coming after us!
