Advice on the next steps

Hi,
I have a BSc in Criminology from Nigeria and want to study in the UK, focusing on a blend of criminology, psychology, and counselling/psychotherapy.
I’m looking for advice on:
Recommended courses/programs
Work placements or internships
Costs and funding options
Any tips or experiences would be greatly appreciated as well as students offering related courses. Thank you😙

Hello,

It’s great to hear about your interest in studying in the UK and exploring the intersection of criminology, psychology, and counselling/psychotherapy.

As a starting point, I would recommend using Find a Masters, which is an excellent resource for searching and comparing postgraduate programmes across UK universities: https://www.findamasters.com/

You may also want to think carefully about the level of specialisation you’re aiming for. Some students choose to continue with a broad criminology pathway, while others focus more specifically on areas such as criminal psychology, criminal justice, or policing.

At Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU), for example, we currently offer several relevant postgraduate programmes, including:

MA Criminal Justice

MA Criminal Psychology and Criminal Justice

MA Criminology

MSc Policing and Criminal Investigation

You can find more details about these courses here: https://www.ljmu.ac.uk/study/subjects/criminology-and-sociology

Regarding funding, options vary by university. At LJMU, we offer a range of tuition fee reductions and work alongside external funding bodies to support international students. More information on our postgraduate scholarships can be found here: https://www.ljmu.ac.uk/international/thinking-of-applying/international-scholarships/postgraduate

I hope this provides a useful starting point for your research.

Hi, thanks for the response. I’ll go through what you shared.
Just to explain a bit more about what I’m aiming for, I’m more interested in the psychology side of criminology. Things like forensic psychology, mental health, criminal psychology, and eventually psychotherapy.
I’m basically trying to move towards a psychology-focused career, especially where it overlaps with crime and mental health.
