GCSE Design project ideas

I’m just starting my GCSE design project and I already have two problems and concepts that can solve them. It would be really helpful if anybody had suggestions or feedback/if anybody has a third concept?

Here are the first two concepts:
If you have a nice watch and you don’t want to wear it all the time because you have a different watch like an Apple Watch. What happens when you don’t wear them for 2 days or so is that the spring uncoils meaning that you have to wind the watch back up. This also sometimes means that the watch loses the time and you have to put it back onto the right time/wind it back up

Solution: a nice watch case that automatically winds your watches. You can set a specific time for when or how long to wind back up

Another problem that I have is sometimes procrastinating doing my homework by spending time on my phone. I also try to have plants in my room but I frequently forget to water it and when I do I tend to overwater.

Solution: by creating a plant pot that has a sensor that can tell when my phone is inside of the pot. When the phone is in there for a certain time, the plant will get watered. This not only means that I will spend less time on my phone, but my plant will also get consistently watered. I can also add sensors which can tell how much water to give to the plant

I’m not sure. I’m researching how the ones that do it automatically get water

what’s the topic and what’s the exam board and are you asking a real person or creating a fake client

Hey @TWR Driver,

Some great ideas here! I'd recommend trying to develop the second one a bit further - automatic watch winders already exist and are relatively common amongst those who own multiple automatics.

Would the phone have a special slot within the pot (e.g. a pull-out tray at the bottom)? This might make it easier to for the sensors to detect and ensures I don't have to put my phone in the soil. 🙂

Best of luck with your GCSE Design project,
Eve (Kingston Rep).

Thank you very much, I have been warned against the watch winder by my teacher and he said that the plant pot had some legs. The pot would have some slots or a pull out tray for the phone
