Student Finance advice for second degree

Hi, I already hold an integrated masters degree. I am looking to do a full time Biomedical Science Degree at the University of Cumbria starting 2026. I am looking at the exceptions of getting funding for second degree. The student finance website says you are eligible if you are studying Subjects allied to Medicine or if studying part time General and Others in Science. It doesn't say which subjects these include. Is Biomedical Science included in either of these categories? Many thanks

Hi there,

Biomedical Science courses are only exceptions when studied part-time. So, it may be worth asking the university if they offer this course on a part-time basis.

Thanks, Graeme

Thank you. Do you know what the reason for this is? It is the same degree, why does it matter if it is part time?

Hi there,

We normally wouldn't fund a second degree unless this is one of our exception courses. These are the rules government lay out for SFE for students looking to student second degree. We have full time and part time exception courses. The course you wish to do is only part time exception.

Thanks,
Claire

Thanks,
