Do AS grades matter for uni applications?

I apply for uni at the end of this year right, so can unis straight up reject me if my AS grades from the summer aren’t good? I know they count towards the whole A level grade, I’m just wondering how much they influence my applications.

England's A levels don't work like this now so I think unis put less weight on it. However your predicted grades still need to look realistic from your AS grades.
