Questions about studying at Nottingham or Bath.

Hi there, I want to study biomedical sciences at university and two of my options are Nottingham and Bath which I would be moving away from home if I choose to attend them, so I would like to ask some questions that I feel I haven't had fully explained to me. I don't think I have been able to express what I want to ask as much as possible but please go into as much detail as you feel is helpful, thank you!

- Let's start with the course, I would like to ask your experience being taught and what the independent study looks like?
- Does the university I chose really matter in terms of future opportunities or employment? I've looked at the modules and they both seem to have a similar structure of a wide first year and then specialising. Does this affect the quality of my degree or skills I learn?
- How do you get used to the idea of moving away? I know I will have to eventually which is why I want to start (like many others) in a more controlled setting but I am kind of scared that I don't have the willpower to make it work.
- How has your experience been living in each city? How do you go around looking for things to do, because I do not want to lock myself in a bedroom. The universities themselves don't offer Polish as a language I could learn alongside my studies but it is something that I want to do and I'm not sure there are any schools for above secondary school age just from searching online.
- Is it true at Bath for 2nd year you have to go into private accommodation or is it you move from campus to the university buildings in the City? And if so how did you deal with finding, settling and paying? This applies for all types of accommodation.
- How does the food system work at either uni? I think Nottingham has food halls and Bath has a cafe system I don't expect institutions that have to feed at least hundreds per day to be all that but I still want to know if it is possible for me me to mindlessly stumble into two full meals a day. And its important to me.
- Any other advice or experience you want to share.

Feel free to pick which questions you want to answer. I know that my experience won't be determined by everything I here or be the same but I hope it will help me make the best decision I can. Thank you all so much in advance. 😀

I can answer some of your accommodation questions about Bath.
Bath has both campus and city accommodation for 1st years, I was allocated city accommodation which is great. and I love living in the city and it's an easy journey to the uni on the bus but quite expensive! For 2nd year you have to find private accommodation unless you have certain medical conditions and then you may be able to stay in halls but this isn't guaranteed, private accommodation in Bath is also very expensive as it's an exclusive, beautiful and safe city. You'd need to rent privately from year 2 onwards at most unis as they just don't have enough rooms for 1st years and 2nd years, I know this is the same of uni of Birmingham as my sis is there. Private accommodation especially at an affordable price is hard to find and as soon as you find something suitable you need to put down a holding deposit (Often 1 weeks rent) the same day or it will go, each letting agent has a different process, some require the full deposit (Usually 5 weeks rent) soon after the holding deposit but will others (As in my case) you dont need to pay it until 1 month before your contract starts. With food at Bath, if you have catered accommodation (Only in certain campus halls) you are given a credit of eight £25 or £50/week and you can spend it at certain cafes on campus, this doesn't apply in city accommodation where you share a kitchen with others. Bath is a beautiful city and I'm very happy here and much prefer living in the city rather than on campus
