KCL international management

Just got rejected from kings 💔💔 so mad bcs they said it was over my MFL GSCE grade which was ONE BELOW the needed grade. The UCAS applicant person at my college called them up in October before I sent my applications off and enquired and they told me to still apply so kinda annoyed. Oh well, waiting on UCL now.

Sorry to hear this and hope you get other offers. Having said that, minimum GCSE grades are clearly specified for a reason. If you apply even when you don't meet the minimums, your chances of getting an offer especially in a highly competitive course such as this are virtually nonexistent.

Good luck. UCL International Mgt is much more competitive than KCL's course. About 11% of the applicants last year got offers compared to 33% for KCL International Mgt. You might well have been in that 33% to be fair if the minimum MFL Gcse grades had not come into play and I don't think that is going to be an issue at UCL.

UCL brand, unique location in the heart of the business district at Canary Wharf and massive international interest ( int students pay over £40K per year just for tuition).

Sorry to hear that,
KCL Management courses are extremely oversubscribed and I'm afraid applying when you don't meet the specified minimum is a long shot and was always unlikely to get very far. UCL IM is is actually much more competitive but their required GCSE minimums are not so stringent so it likely will come down to predicted A-levels+personal statement to filter the 11% or so they will make offers to. Good luck.

not really, i have a 5 in maths which is below kings required and low for cambridge and i have an offer for both. As long as every other aspect of your application is amazing you should ALWAYS apply. They dont care that much about the requirement its just a way for them to filter people out. If you are built for that course and perfect for it they will take you

Were you a contextual candidate ?
I know lots of people have been rejected quickly with the reason clearly stating that they don't meet the required GCSE minimums.
You are suggesting that people who do not meet the minimum requirements use up their UCAS choices and apply speculatively. That's not a problem if you don't mind speculating using one of your available 5 UCAS choices. If you are not contextual or have clearly identified mitigating circumstances, your odds of getting an offer in courses which have a low offer rate anyway are very low ( Like KCL BM or UCL IM)

not contextual, home student, no mitigating circumstances. If your applying to Kings / UCL / Cambridge etc and your below the requirement you should really know if you have a chance or not. i knew full well i was worth getting onto that course and it reflected with me getting an offer. i went from not a single 7 in any of my GCSES to A*A*A*A pred with an A achieved already. just put the work in studying isnt hard its just time consuming.

Congrats on your offers.
Your post reflects survivorship bias. Your advice—that anyone can do this just by "putting in the work" despite not meeting the published minimum GCSEs—ignores the rigid mechanical realities of UK university admissions.
The issue is not whether "you" know ahead of time you are going to get an offer not having any documented mitigating circumstances. It is whether you can survive the first cut filters most top universities employ especially where volumes of applications are high. This usually happens even before anyone reads your application. You may not have got any 7s but a lot of the courses just require 6s in GCSE maths and English and that would actually meet the minimums especially at KCL management courses. There are multiple candidates with A* predictions so just having those is not enough to get offers. You seem to have got through the system somehow but I don't think the advice that everyone should assume that as long as they get good predicted grades they can apply ignoring the GCSE requirements for the courses is very sound.
