I accepted my unconditional offer at ARU but can't open student bank account.

On UCAS, it states that ARU has confirmed my place to study, and then underneath it states that I can now open a student bank account. When I got my code, and put it into the application for my student bank account, it says that UCAS has not confirmed my place. I'm just wondering, has something gone wrong along the way? Why is it saying that my place is not confirmed yet on UCAS it says it is confirmed?

At this time of year, banks are going to be working on the basis that you're in your first year of study already.

I wouldn't bother trying to open a student account until after A-level results day in August 2026 -- even though your offer is unconditional and hence you're not waiting for results.

If I do this in august, can I then still apply for student loan in august or is that too late? Just because I want the student loan payments to go to my student bank account so I'd need the student bank account first.

You can pick a different bank account (any account that is in your name).
Once your student bank account opens in August and you have the details, you can change it.

Hi there,

Great to see you are keen to open a student bank account, and congratulations on your offer to study with us! 👏 Is there any update at all to the above?

I have spoke with ARU's Money Advice team and they have said to double check the offer and to check directly with the bank.

Looking on Santander's student account as an example, you will need: An unconditional offer, OR you have exam results and a confirmed conditional offer and studying (or about to start). It may be the case you need your exam results if you have a conditional offer, and this could be preventing you from opening an account right now.
