Cambridge Vet Offer 2026

Did all vet applicants at Cambridge get an email saying:

“The University emailed you on 10 December 2025 to outline recent discussions about the future of the Cambridge Veterinary Medicine course. Your application is still under active consideration.

We will ensure that we issue you with a final decision on your application as soon as possible. There is nothing further you need to do for now.”

Or something along these lines? (mine was from Selwyn)

I have great regard for Cambridge University, Top of the world in any areas. I assume you are fully aware of the current issues surrounding Vet Med course at Cambridge university. I assume you are fully aware of the current situation. When I first came to know about the issue, I thought it is 100% fake but could not believe my eyes when I verified RVCS raising concerns. It is coming down to closing in 2032. Below is official link Veterinary education recommendation by the School of the Biological Sciences | University of Cambridge. Apologies, I am not answering your query and probably sharing information you already know.

Yes I have heard about it but thanks for sharing anyway. In the email they sent back in December they said that the 2026 cohort would potentially be their last and us applicants may still have a chance - I just feel like they haven’t really been that clear in the email I got today about what’s going on 🤷*♀️

Congratulation on securing admission at Cambridge. All the best.

Yeah was this specifically for vet med or just for Cambridge in general? Because I also got this email and want to know if it means anything?

People got rejected for Vet Med from Cambridge today? Don't want to get my hopes up as I got the same email from Clare!!
Yeah I know lots that have officially gotten rejected!! Even through UCAS as well as email. Surely if they were rejecting people they would reject everyone on the same day, I think we are guaranteed an offer if the vet school stays open!

I’m assuming specifically vet med cus I’ve seen lots of other people in other courses that have been rejected/accepted

I chose not to apply to Cambridge in the end in case this happened… what happens if someone has to resit a year but it’s the last cohort? 🤔 Good luck all!

Just when I thought that the school of biological sciences (who were the ones that made this terribly thought out recommendation) couldn’t have handled this any worse, they then pull this on you all…

I know there’s little I can do to reassure you all right now but I know that the vet school and the colleges themselves are going to be furious about all of this and are fighting the recommendation big time. There’s been a massive pushback from the colleges who are very angry that they weren’t consulted on the matter and have effectively been made to deal with the applications with no guidance or planning from the SBS. Don’t be afraid to push back about it- how the SBS has treated current applicants is not ok.

From a very angry 6th year vet who will be spreading the word on this…

Yes - I think that they are waiting for a final decision to be made about the future of the Vet school. I understand that the decision has now been postponed until “about mid February” so I suspect we will not hear until then. I only wish that they had told us sooner so we did not have to sit through the agony of waiting yesterday morning

I agree, do you know who it is that will be making the final decision? We were assured that even if the course closes our cohort would still be admitted so it's frustrating that they haven't given us decisions on our applications.

Just to be clear - were the rejections related to the vetmedcourse?

To my knowledge (and disclaimer, I’m a student and not a staff member who receives these communications!), the decision is being made by the general board of the university and will be happening in February but we don’t know when for certain. If they choose to close the vet school, a vote at Regent House (which academic staff at the university will be eligible to vote in) will be held and that decision is final.

What I know for certain is that you lot are really wanted by the vet school and the colleges and they will fight to have your places confirmed. The vet school is run by some very kind and hardworking individuals who really do value their students and I know they will be very angry for all of you!

Students having to resit is certainly a possibility. If one securing admission to Cambridge and failing is very remote. I am sure Cambridge will make some arrangement or at least help such students to finish the course with help of other Universities running the course.

I disagree about the failing being very remote, vet med is brutal and life happens. I had a friend who got into a serious car accident the week before our exams which meant he couldn’t sit the exams or the resits so is resitting the year. Mental and physical health can both impact you whether you got 4A* or not.

Vet med courses are also all done very differently and certain unis have to cover certain things additionally to meet their accreditations (eg AVMA which Cambridge don’t have) so the likelihood of being able to transfer to a different program is very low.
Personally all things considered I wouldn’t risk being the last cohort
