Uni of Salford, sports journalism interview

I was wondering if anyone has had an Interview with Salford Uni for the Sports Journalism Course and if anyone could tell me what to expect. I am a very anxious person and even a bit of a heads up would be helpful.

Thank you

Hey @hilly2321 ,

Huge congrats on getting through to interview! Absolutely understandable that you're feeling nervous about the interview, its perfectly normal to feel that way.

You can expect your interview to be a group interview for Sports Journalism, so not a one-on-one style (which I know I find much more stressful!). Our Sports Journalism lecturers are lovely, and are definitely not there to trip you up on the day - they just want to see your passion and interest in Sports Journalism, and don't expect you to be an expert. My best advice is to have a think about why you want to go into Sports Journalism specifically - is there a particular area of sport you'd like to work in? Specific skills that you want to develop? Have you had any experience in writing in journalistic ways (e.g. personal articles, school papers etc!) that you could talk about to show your skills? I'd also recommend trying to make sure your voice is heard as a part of the interview, but also try to make sure you're balancing that with listening and collaborating with others - a big part of journalism is working together as a team, so showing good collaboration and communications skills in the interview will go a long way!

I'm sure you've already seen this in your interview email, but our Arts Media and Creative Technologies Interviews Page is a really good resource to read through our FAQ's and interview info!

Let me know if you have any specific queries, always happy to help where possible! Good luck with your interview, fingers crossed for you!!
