edinburgh or st andrews medicine

hi, i am a RUK applicant for medicine and I have offers at st andrews and edinburgh both for AAA. i can't decide which to firm or whether i should go to the offer holder days. i've been to edinburgh twice for the open day & interview but never been to st andrews.

some things i like about each:

edinburgh: intercalation opportunity, good sports clubs, location

st andrews: location, course (cadavers/split locations)

I don't mind about the difference in nightlife between the 2 as i probably prefer pubs to clubs anyway!

if anyone can give their opinion i would really appreciate it:smile:
I'd love to know more about opinions on the different courses, student experience and general uni life.

Ok I live in St Andrews, its nice but lowkey boring. But if youre not really a going out type person then you'll love it I think. I also have an offer at Edinburgh, go there al the time and love it. Honestly I might be biased against St Andrews purely because I live there, so I would definietly recommend coming to visit before firming

thank you! I ended up firming edinburgh, it was such a hard choice but it mainly came down to the course differences in the end. however st andrews is definitely still on my bucket list of places to visit and since i'll hopefully be in scotland for at least the next 6 years i'm sure i'll get a chance to go so any recommendations would be great!!

yay! so excited for you honestly - I'm thinking of firming Edinburgh, so maybe I'll see you there! In terms of reccommendations, I'd go in the summer if you can, it's crowded but still lovely (and since its the east coast it doesn't rain nearly so much as the west coast!) the beaches are great, and if you want a tan, you have to go to the castle beach, its a little tucked away, but it's a sun trap, and really popular with students, but most of them will be home by that point. Jannettas ice cream is a must, and try and see something at the Byre theatre? they show like, indie movies and recordings of national theatre stuff which is interesting. Oh, and if you're there over a Sunday, walk on the golf course, its so lovely, and closed for walkers on Sundays. One more thing, if you want to try some 'golf' go to the Himalayas putting course, its a lot of fun, especially with friends/family!

I see you settled on Edinburgh which is a fantastic city. I was going to reiterate the advice given to visit St Andrews before considering it. St Andrews is lovely but a tiny town very different from a city like Edinburgh. Loads of students have an amazing time there but you really need to see it first to decide if it is ‘you’. All the best for Edinburgh!
