Law at ntu vs uni of leicester

hi soz this is long but ive had all my offers back and now i wanna firm my offers. originally i wanted to firm ntu and then put leicester as my insurance.

however the grades leicesters asking for are bbb while ntu is bcc so technically it makes more sense to firm leicester as it higher.

however i really like the law and law clinic that ntu has to offer and i feel like i really like the city and just the overall uni. and also i didn't really like the people or leicester in general.

would it be risky to firm ntu and insure leicester as if i don’t get the bcc i won’t have any insurance offer and i’ll be stuck in clearing. or what should i doo

someone pls help me i’m so stuck rn 😭

Firm NTU. That's the one you clearly prefer.

Hi @ayomidé,

Congratulations on your offers from Leicester and NTU!

It definitely can be a hard decision making your firm and insurance choices. The important thing to remember is that you still have plenty of time to weigh the pros and cons of your choice - if you haven't already I'd recommend making note of the key dates and deadlines for UCAS so you can stay on track.

I'm a huge fan of the Law Clinic here at NTU as well, and I think you have the right idea looking into wider experience, beyond the course content, that will help you in applying for graduate roles and your career long term. Especially if you are looking at practicing as a solicitor or barrister, any opportunity you can get to network with employers and gain real world experience will be a huge benefit.

Aside from entry requirements, I think you've touched on a really important part of the decision making process - feeling at home and comfortable. Wherever you choose you'll make that city home for at least the next three years - and through the ups and downs of any Undergraduate course it's going to be easier to succeed when you're content in your environment. It sounds like you've already visited NTU and Leicester, but just in case we have our next open day upcoming on Saturday 7th March, as well as campus tours throughout the year. There's no harm in a second visit, especially later in the application process, to help you narrow down your decisions.

I hope this helps, let us know if you have any questions!

Hello!

Congratulations on getting an offer from both NTU and the University of Leicester! University is about a lot more than just a degree, and so I would recommend firming the university that you think you would be the happiest at and the one that you can really see yourself living at.

Attending a university with a Legal Advice Clinic can really enhance your university experience! I joined the University of Leicester Legal Advice Clinic as an advisor in my second year and became student director in my final year. The experience has given me a lot more confidence as the students get to lead the client interviews (under the supervision of a solicitor) and draft the advice letters. I have also got to work on some really interesting cases that go beyond what we learn in lectures. It feels rewarding to be able to help someone navigate a legal issue and be able to reduce their stress by pointing them in the right direction.

Additionally, Offer Holder Days are also a fantastic event to attend if you cannot decide between universities. They go into more detail then an Open Day and allow you to explore the subject department and university in further depth. At the University of Leicester, we have two upcoming in-person Offer Holder Days (14 March and 25 April) as well as a digital one (29 April). You would be able to go on a tour of the law school, speaking to current law students/staff, go on a campus tour as well as self-guided accommodation tours! Attending one of these will give you more information to help you make the right choice! You would have received an email about how to book onto one of these events.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!
