Help! Do I take UNCONDITIONAL offer from Uni of Liverpool or RESIT

I’m on a gap year and for the last few months have been preparing to resit my a-levels as I got ABB and missed my Uni of Sheffield Aerospace Engineering offer.
However I have just received an unexpected unconditional offer from Liverpool for Aerospace Engineering- meaning I would no longer need to resit my A-levels.
I’ve contacted my school and I am still able to get a refund for what I paid to resit.
I could use the rest of my gap year for other things like travelling and saving more money.
Or I could still choose to resit and possible still get into Sheffield(I’ve gotten an offer for A*A not including mathematics which is the subject I got an A in last year).
What do I do?
Grades aside, would you prefer to go to Sheffield than Liverpool? If so, continue with the retakes and use Liverpool as your insurance choice.

Sheffield, as it’s a better uni and I like the vibe. Although for engineering I’m not too sure that uni rank matters an awful lot.
If I continue with resits and don’t meet the grades again, I’ve essentially wasted the next few months and will go to Liverpool either way. But if I do meet the grades then I get the uni I’ve wanted to go to for the last year.
But comparing the unis, apart from rank I believe Liverpool has everything Sheffield has to offer- so would it make me stupid to choose to resit?

Hi Juliakos123, 👋

I understand your conflict here! Ultimately, it comes down to your personal preference. You would have an amazing experience at either university I'm sure. If you don't seem to have a preference either way, you could go to Liverpool and not resit your exams.

However, if thinking about that makes you still really want to go to Sheffield, I would say go for the resit and try for Sheffield. I have also found that Sheffield is more lenient with grades if you firm them as your top choice. Both my partner (ChemEng) and I (EngLit) didn't quite get the A-Level grades we needed but we were still offered the place at Sheffield as we firmed Sheffield as our number one choice. He really enjoyed studying in the department of Engineering as the facilities are amazing and the support was great too.

But again, it comes to how you feel. I always recommend Sheffield: I came here for my undergrad and stayed for my Masters and PhD because I love the university and living in Sheffield.

If you haven't already, you could attend an offer holder open day at Liverpool, and if you still feel you prefer the vibe of Sheffield, then I say go for the resit!

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions about Sheffield or UoS, and I will be more than happy to help!

All best wishes,
Phoebe 😀
