BTEC Music for geography/ecology degrees?

Has anyone else applied for geography, ecology or planning with Music BTEC? Did unis value the skills, or did it cause issues for offers? 😊

Hi!

I currently study ecology and conservation at UEA, which may be a course that interests you! Whilst I didn’t do a music BTEC, I did do A-levels in Sociology, Psychology and Philosophy, so I didn’t meet the entry requirements for A level subjects. Are you studying other subjects alongside your music BTEC? Or are you doing it by itself?

The Ecology and Conservation requirements for UEA are very flexible, allowing a wide range of qualifications and subject areas, although you will need to have studied a science-related subject (e.g. biology, human biology, geography or environmental sciences) (https://www.uea.ac.uk/course/undergraduate/bsc-ecology-and-conservation ). That being said, if you have one of these, a music BTEC shouldn’t hinder your application!

If you are studying music as a standalone and want to change course to study ecology, UEA offers foundation years in the biological sciences (https://www.uea.ac.uk/course/undergraduate/bsc-biological-sciences-with-a-foundation-year) and in the environmental sciences (https://www.uea.ac.uk/course/undergraduate/bsc-environmental-sciences-with-a-foundation-year). I took the environmental science foundation year, which then allowed me to progress on to the ecology and conservation degree program! The uni was very flexible, allowing me to shuffle around a bit to get to where I wanted to be!

I’d really recommend looking into the course, I’m in my third year now and I love it! Hopefully this helps, please let me know if you have any other questions!

Thankyou so much!

I posted for my daughter, who will be doing Geography & biology A levels with music Btech.

And yes, we did look at UEA - this app didn’t recommend it at first, I’m not sure why? Plus it was the app that thought they would be a problem with music Btech - so I’m ever so glad to hear that won’t be a problem!

Ironically my daughter initially chose philosophy & ethics like you, but has switched to biology, to make more courses accessible.

Plus she loves philosophy, but realised it is actually mainly religion & she is less keen on that …. So she will keep it as her ‘side interest’ instead.

Ah wonderful!

She should have no problems if she applied for UEA! I think she would need BB in her A-levels and a merit in her BTEC, based on the equivalent number of UCAS points, but this is worth checking with the admissions team. I’d really recommend ecology at UEA, I’m in my third year now and I absolutely love my degree, so I think it might be worth looking into!

Please let me know if you have any other questions, or questions about UEA specifically! I’m happy to answer them
