Feeling lonely and isolated at university

Hello!

I am a film student making a 1 minute documentary about feeling lonely and isolated at university. I plan to show a story of someone experiencing this but then finding a friend.

I am particularly stuck on how exactly they end up making a friend, especially as this is a 1 minute film. I would love to hear from people's experiences and any ideas on ways to make a true friend when feeling isolated at uni.

It is completely fine to stay anonymous when replying as I am just looking for ideas!

Hi!

This seems like such a lovely idea! As someone that has supported people going through this here are a few things that i suggest:

Through signing up for societies

Contacting support and mental wellbeing teams

If the university does a buddy scheme they could meet someone through this

Freshers socials

Going to friend speed dating events at uni

Going to social events

Talking to your flatmates/people you live with

be spontaneous

if they have a job try to speak with co workers

I hope these are some good ideas you could think of!

Hope this helps!
