Chances to get into economics at russell group

Hi,

I got 9999999887 in my GCSEs and take maths, fm, econ and psych a level. Assuming that I achieve 4 A*s predicted but an average TMUA score (let's say 4.5 or 5.0), would this give me a good chance to get into LSE Econ/UCL Econ/Warwick Econ?

With a solid PS and good supercurriculars, would I have a chance at applying for cambridge?

I also only got an 8 in gcse maths so would this disadvantage me or if i get an A* predicted in FM, would this compensate for it?

Any advice would be really appreciated, thanks!

Yeah I mean firstly you'd be a competitive applicant and would have a good shot (also if 'russell group' is the goal you'd 100% get into one there are like 24) at getting into the unis listed. Well I think the main obstacle would a 4.5 in TMUA it would probs be enough for Warwick and idk about UCL. But I have a suspicion it would be a little low for LSE and Cambridge just because the number of applicants is so high for these courses. The rest of your application would be fine, well great even, an 8 in maths isn't going to be a make or break an application just do the best you can for A level obv. If you want some other options (not saying you should) you could look at Land Econ (Cam) or Econ and history (LSE). I applied for the former this year (because I was chicken and knew my TMUA score would be mid) and got an offer, it means you don't need the TMUA for one of your options. Obv pointless if the course looks awful to you personally I think it looks interesting and good prospects post uni defo doesn't have the prestige of pure econ. Whatever you apply for I think you'll be a strong applicant. Also tmua prep you can use r2drew2 and tmua ninja for some practice and reviewing solutions.

Thanks for the advice. What were your stats for Land econ and what else did u apply for at other unis?
I don't see any reason you couldn't apply competitively to LSE or Cambridge, or any other economics course for that sake, on the basis of your grades.

Most unis still view 8 and 9 grades equivalently as far as I'm aware.

So I'm a Scottish applicant so at Nat 5 (gcse) I got 8A1s, Higher 5A1s (AS) and Advanced higher (A level) predicted 4As. I applied just for pure econ at other unis, those being Glasgow, Edinburgh, St Andrews and Bath. Tbh my personal statement wasn't really land econ oriented at all, I did talk in one paragraph about advanced higher accounting and DCF/discount rates ect and I spoke broadly about the surveying profession and problems with certain valuation methods. I did this just because Ik the land econ course is accredited by the RICS so therefore it must have at least some valuation in it. But that's off topic in hindsight I think I should of applied to like econ and geography or econ and finance/accounts instead of just pure econ as it meant I had to write a decent My Cambridge application to persuade them I actually knew what land econ was and wanted to do it. Ultimately just know if you do, do what I did you will need to put some effort into the like 1200 characters you get with the My Cambridge suplmentry application as that is were you can really push that you understand and like the course.

Oh yeah I think that grades aren't a problem just a TMUA score of 4.5 would be pushing it for Cambridge econ or lse econ. But yeah fr grade wise you're right it's a non issue really.

If I were to get a score of over 6.0, would this be deemed competitive enough for Cambridge and LSE?

Yes that would be good and sufficient I believe especially since there has been grade deflation on the TMUA in recent years.
