Part-time student finance applications opened on GOV.UK around May 12, 2025 for courses starting in 2025/26, and students were encouraged to apply early so funding is in place by the start of term.
•
Full-time student finance applications for January 2026 starts were already open (evidence from official posts).
•
GOV.UK typically opens online student finance applications in spring/summer the year before the academic year starts (i.e., spring to summer 2026 for 2026/27). They often issue a press release when the application window opens — usually around May to June — and updates forms such as the PTMC for the new academic year. While a specific date for the 2026/27 opening has not yet been published at the time of this inquiry, the pattern suggests applications should be available in mid-2026 with forms updated for that cycle.

When available, you should be able to access the new PTMC form for continuing part-time students (for academic year 2026/27) via GOV.UK under “Student finance application forms and notes”, where the 2025/26 version currently exists and will be replaced/updated for 2026/27.
1.
Monitor the official GOV.UK student finance pages for England (or the equivalent pages for Wales/Scotland/NI) for the updated application forms for 2026/27, including the PTMC. They release these in advance of the next cycle.
2.
Sign in to your student finance account — once forms are live, links to download or complete the PTMC online (or download PDF if applicable) will appear there.
3.
Apply as soon as possible once the 2026/27 PTMC form and the online application portal are activated, to ensure your funding is confirmed before your course starts.
