Applying for 2nd MSc loan??

Hi there,

In Oct 2023, I had to take a LOA from a MSc due to illness. I received the 1st instalment but not the next 2 as I took the LOA a month after starting.

In July 2025, I had to withdraw completely as you can only take LOA for 2 years. I withdrew based on health ground as I wasn't ready for a MSc course.

Was wondering what the chances were to getting 2nd MSc loan if i deemed myself ready in the near future?? And how would I go about getting the ball rolling?

Thank you

Hi there,

Postgraduate Master's funding is normally one time only product whether you received part or all of it.
If you withdrew/suspended due to Compelling Personal Reasons (CPR) it may be possible to get the funding again, but this isn't guaranteed. You would need to apply on a paper application from our website and send it with the CPR evidence and cover letter.

Compelling Personal Reasons evidence (CPR)The evidence would be a letter on headed paper signed/stamped and dated from someone in profession i.e. Doctor/lecturer who knows the CPR. They must know how it affected your studies and the dates it affected you.

Cover letter you would write your name, crn and detail why you're sending in the evidence. Once received it will be up to the assessor if this will be accepted or not.

Thanks,
Claire

Hi,

Thank you for the reply.

So would Cancer fit the criteria for a CPR? what would be the chances of getting it?

From what I understand, you need to first apply for a MSc then apply for funding in writing? Problem with that is, that applying to a MSc can be very time consuming and usually has fees attached so would it be possible to get a provisional funding decision before applying to a MSc course??

Thank you

Based on what you have advised it should be accepted but nothing is definite till you apply and send the evidence and the team will review and confirm.

Thanks,
Claire

Thank you for your reply.

So could i get a decision before applying for a MSc to potentially avoid fees and wasting time just incase they wouldn't grant funding?

Hi there. Yes, you can apply before the course starts or before you are accepted into the course. Do you know when you would be looking to return to study? Thanks, Leah.

Thanks, just to check: can you please tell us the name of the course you're thinking of studying?

Thanks, Graeme

Hi,

The course must be a full master's 180 credits to be eligible for finance.

Thanks,
Claire
