The Student Room Group

Need serious help. My tuition loan on SFE was cancelled.

This has very much stressed me out and I need advice, or at least some comfort that this has happened to somebody else and it's fixable.

I am a new student, I started in September last year and had a lot of issue trying to get my loan sorted (I must add it would not let me enroll without it).
I ended up fixing it and being able to enroll, and now I have been notified that I am to pay 3 grand by the 6th of February in order to keep attending. I have contacted just about every support department in my university, and even reapplied for my loan in which it says will take 4 weeks to process (give or take). I have no bank account for the moment, nor do I have a provisional driving license and operate purely off of a citzencard.

I am very nervous and afraid, especially because I thought everything was clear and until today I had no knowledge of this at all.

I fully intend to contact SFE if I can, but has anybody else been through this and have any advice?

Hi there,

I presume its the university asking for the payment? If you applied last year did you not receive notification your loan has been approved?

Thanks,
Claire

Yes, I assume it is. I assumed everything was fine, due to checking constantly whilst enrolling. I'm very shaken up by this and can't do anything until Monday now when everything reopens. I have been advised to attend an open zoom call on Monday with some finance people in order to help this, I've also been told I'm not the first this has happened to.

If the meeting his with the university all you can do is advise what has happened and the timescale you have been advised. If the university wish to check your application status you can set up consent to share for them, which means they can call on your behalf to check the application. You can set this up on your online account.

Thanks,
Claire

Would calling SFE on Monday be a good shout?

And is this a solvable issue?

Thank you for your help, I appreciate it!

You can call us to check the application and timescale but this should also show online in your account just now. We're open till 7pm tonight.

Thanks,
Claire

Thank you!

I have no way of adding a payment method, due to not having a bank account (therefore, I have yet to apply to any maintenance loans until I have it all sorted), would this affect my tuition application?

Hi there. You can apply for Tuition Fee loan only, as this get's paid directly to the university. Thanks, Leah.
