Biology supercurriculars?

Hi! I’m planning to apply to university courses for biological sciences next year but I’m useless when it comes to finding stuff on the internet. Does anybody have any ideas for supercurriculars in the UK for biological sciences? I am already doing a MOOC and have applied to various competitions such as the Biology Olympiad. Any summer schools/work experience/reading that you recommend?
Thank you

Online courses are reallygreat, Ive done ones about animal behaviour, aquatic mammals, animal responses, biodiversity, animal management and fire ecology (sites to look at: edx, openlearn,Springpod). Documentaries can be very useful, i usually look on iPlayer for these! Googlearts and culture is great, their articles are really interactive and museum based which i love.I did the Cambridge biology challenge in year 12 which i cannot recommend enough!Channel talent runs amazing webinars with uk universities on a massive range of topics, iusually go for the biology and geography centred ones. Ive done virtual work experience onSpringpod on geology, sustainability, agriculture and vet care. Also been to some coolplaces like geology and zoology museums, nature reserves, zoos, wildlife parks, sea lifecentres, botanical gardens. In terms of books ive only actually read a couple but the strategyid recommend is finding books on specific topics that really interest you rather than readingthe books everyone goes for. I did work experience irl as well which was quite agriculturefocused but office-based. Only a fraction of this stuff will end up on my ps but i didnt do anyof this stuff with the aim of putting it on my personal statement, just did it because i lovelearning about these kind of things and i want to know as much as it can lol. I haven’t doneany volunteering relevant to bio but ive done tutoring and i hope to do some relevantvolunteering type stuff this year 🙂

Hi! I have 5/5 offers for biological sciences and I did:
Volunteering to help in year 7 science classes
Sutton trust summer school, there's also Uniq and some others.
Reading books on my favourite areas (I recommend the A Very Short Introduction series, I loved the stem cells one by Jonathon Slack)
Volunteer outside of your interests too, I did hospitals and food banks
I ended up not doing this one but I emailed Cancer Research UK for work experience, some email hospitals. Depends what kind of bio you like.
You honestly don't need a lot, just need to be able to reflect on it well. Good luck!

Thank you, this was very useful! I have browsed through some of the Open learn courses and there are some fascinating topics.

Thank you very much for your advice! I have read the Very Short Introduction to Ecology and it was very interesting. Well done for getting into the Sutton Trust summer school, I have heard they are very competitive! I wanted to apply for the next one but I don't meet a lot of the extra criteria standards so I'm not quite sure if an attempt would be successful or not.
