Uni of Sheffield - Are mentor visits optional?

So I’ll be 22 when I go to uni and will be staying in a flat with people around my age in Endcliffe. Will student mentors still visit my flat every two weeks? I’ve nothing against them personally, just feel like it isn’t needed and would be kind of awkward tbh. Is it literally just a quick “Hey, how’s everyone doing?” type thing or do they properly check up on us?
Hi!

By student mentors, I'm assuming you mean the Residence Life team? 😊 That's so fair- I can understand your concern! I wouldn't worry about the ResLife staff wellbeing checks- they're pretty informal and you'll usually end up being super friendly with them! Just think of them as a friendly face who checks in every now and then. They're not there to 'police' Endcliffe, they're just there to check everyone is having a good time and enjoying studying so far, and are on hand if you have any questions for someone an academic year or two ahead😊.

Someone in my first year flat had taken a couple of gap years before Uni and they weren't phased at all by the ResLife mentors being a similar age to them. In all honesty, at Uni age just feels like just a concept anyway- it never really feels like there's much of a gap between year groups / ages.🙂

I hope this is helpful!
