Is it possible to transfer into Year 2 Civil Engineering at a higher ranked uni?

I’m a first-year Civil Engineering student at UWE and I’m considering applying to transfer into Year 2 at a different uni. I’ve been getting high marks this year and have not been finding the work challenging at all. Most of my modules seem to line up with other university first-year content. I am very unhappy where I am.

My A-level grades were CCD, I did mess them up badly, but my uni performance is much stronger, and I’m willing to retake A-level Maths if needed. I’ve already covered integration/differentiation in my engineering maths module and I’m self-studying other topics such as matrices.

Before I send an email to any of the other uni admission teams, I was just wondering if anyone has experience with transferring into Year 2 for engineering, or if this is even possible. I know that I have missed the UCAS deadline but I don't think that is a major issue yet... I would also like to transfer to a university that will challenge me theoretically and mathematically.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

I would explore the transfer FAQ which is at the top of this forum (applications, clearing and ucas).

Hi @jamesj12016,

Sorry to hear you feel like this.

It may be worth checking out this page about transferring universities: https://www.uwe.ac.uk/study/academic-information/interrupt-transfer-or-withdraw/transferring-university.

You may also find it helpful to speak to the Student Union's Advice Centre (https://www.thestudentsunion.co.uk/support/advicecentre/), which is independent of UWE and they can offer confidential and judgement free advice.

Whatever you decide to do, I wish you luck with everything!

From Cara (2nd year Marketing student)
