Uni without a family car

I’m starting uni this September, and my family sold our car a few years ago so we don’t have one anymore. Everyone seems to take all of their things to and from uni in a car, and I’m worrying about how I’m going to do this without one. My first choice uni is Cambridge, where you have to move all of your things out every term (8 weeks), which is going to make this more of a difficulty. Does anyone have advice on what I can do?

Just fyi I don’t have local family who could drive me there, and I think that relying on family friends to drive me and my stuff there every term wouldn’t really be fair.

Get a big suitcase and a back pack from a charity shop and take it on the train or via taxi etc.

Hey,

The good thing about have to move all of your things out every eight weeks or so is that you only need to bring eight weeks of belongings with you, most of which will fit in a large suitcase and backpack/duffel bag. Trains are an option, but it may be easier to take a bus or coach (e.g. National Express/Flixbus) if your luggage is particularly heavy.

I didn't have a car to transport my belongings to uni either - instead, my dad came with me on the ferry and we took a suitcase each. If any family members are available to come with you to uni, you may be able to carry more. 🙂

Hope this helps and best of luck,
Eve (Kingston Rep).
