How to choose/find accommodation with LJMU

Location

First you need to know which campus you’ll be at so you can find an accommodation near where you’ll be studying. LJMU has 2 campuses with 30 buildings total, check which campus the subject you'll be studying is going to be at. You can find the full listing of them on our website.

City campus

For those interested in Engineering, Technology, Health, or Science courses then they will most likely be your campus. The ideal accommodations for the City Campus are; Marybone (1, 2, 3), Byrom Point, Atlantic Point, Ablett House, Glassworks. These accommodation are located close to the campus with ones like Byrom Point being on the same street as most of the campuses buildings. There are also other accommodations located in the city centre; Albert Court, Copperas House, Grand Central, Horizon Heights, Limelight, and Prospect Point.

Mount Pleasant Campus

For those interested in Arts, Professional, Social, or Humanities courses then these will most likely to be on the Mount Pleasant Campus the majority of the time. This campus is located within walking distance of the city centre. It has a large range of different accommodation near it; Agnes Jones house, Albert Court, The Arch, Copperas House, Grand Central, Grenville Street, Hardman House, Horizon Heights, Limelight, Prospect Point, St Andrews Gardens, St Luke’s View.

Summary

I recommend choosing your accommodation by which campus you will be studying at, and if you aren’t too sure then chose one in between campuses! The LJMU website showcases a map of them all, as well as where the campus locations are so you can see how near the accommodation is to them. Find a budget you are happy with before looking for the right accommodation as there are a wide variety of prices. Once a rough budget (whether that be by week or total year) is settled then you can scroll down the list and look for the ones I’ve listed above. I’d personally recommend making a grid or use the LJMU one provided on our website to compare their amenities.

Hi,
What’s the advantage of applying through the uni? I’ve noticed it can be more expensive than applying direct in a few cases. Also if you apply through the uni and have problems within your flat would the uni facilitate a change of flat ? Thanks .

Hi!

The only way of securing the best possible rate is by booking through LJMU - this also ensures that you're living with other LJMU students too!

Sometimes it might look as if the price for booking with the provider is lower - but this is to do with the length of the tenancy.

If you have any questions for the accommodation team, or if you have seen that this isn't the case anywhere and would like us to investigate, they'd be more than happy for you to get in touch! Just email them at [email protected]

Thanks!

Hi there,

Just to add, the cheaper prices you have seen are likely for the 50+ week tenancies. The advantage of booking through LJMU is that the tenancies are the right length (42 weeks) to cover the term, so you won’t end up paying for accommodation over the summer if you’re going home or planning to travel.

As Charlotte mentioned, booking through LJMU also means you’ll be living with other first-year students like yourself, rather than second/third-year students or students from other universities.

Regarding flat issues or swaps, these are handled directly by the accommodation. You can speak to your hall’s reception about room changes, subject to availability.

Hope that helps!
