Psychology wider reading

Hi, I'm a year 12 student who wants to study psychology at university and I am looking for recommendations for wider reading. I have already been suggested 'the journey of becoming a clinical psychologist' and the aspiring psychologist podcast. I would also like some advice on how I would include this in my personal statement and how important it is for the unis I'm considering. For context I would like to become a clinical psychologist in the future and the universities I am considering applying to are:

• St Andrews
• York
• Cardiff
• Loughborough
• Exeter
• Kings
• Durham
• Warwick
• Sheffield

Hi. I listen to 'Psychology Unplugged' on Spotify, so you might enjoy that.

In terms of including this in your personal statement, you should try to show progression from one activity to the next. So you read this book and lead you to listen to this podcast and then this lead you to watch a documentary (in really simple terms). I recommend that you check out the Anyverse YouTube channel and website and the TSR bank of past personal statements to give you a better idea of this. Once you do this, it might be easier to come up with ideas of activities you can do.

I hope this helps you, and if you have any more questions, feel free to ask me. 😊

It's great that you are looking for wider reading in Psychology. This is going to be very helpful when you start studying your course and you can definitely add this experience to your personal statement.
Before i started my first year in Psychology i read "Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Second Edition basics and beyond by Judith S Beck". I thought the book is very interesting and it helped me later on during our lectures on my Clinical psychology module. It is easy to understand and very engaging, if you are interested in mental health therapy. You could easily add this book into your personal statements highlighting what have you learned and what did you find fascinating about it.
It's great that you have an ideas of which universities you are applying to! I recommend checking out City St George's website and explore the available courses like Psychology BSc (Hons), Psychology with Criminology BSc (Hons), Sociology with Psychology BSc (Hons).

I hope you find this helpful, and let me know if you have any other questions. I would love to help with anything!
