Brexit temporary offer for courses before 2028

Hi, I wanted to clearly understood everything about this topic. I haven't applied yet for the Brexit temporary offer for courses starting before 2028, but I think I answer everything that is required for this offer. I’m going to apply to uni for 2027. I’m an Irish citizen but I lived there for only two years and a half and then I left Ireland to live in France (EU/EEA). But the only thing that is blocking me is, if we answer every requirement you then have to meet a three-year residence test, but if I never lived three years in Ireland or in the UK what can I do ? Will I still be eligible for a student fee loan and for a maintenance loan ? Can someone help me please ?

Hi there. Will you be moving to England when you are due to start your course? Are you currently residing in the EU/EEA? Thanks, Leah.

Thanks - you'll be eligible for a Tuition Fee Loan from us so long as you've lived in the UK or EU for three years prior to the start of your course. Based on what you've said, you're living in France, so this applies to you.

However, to be eligible for a Maintenance Loan you'd need to have lived in the UK for three years prior to the beginning of the course, so it doesn't sound like you'll be eligible for that.

However, do you have any UK family members living in the UK at the moment? Or, are you planning to work while you study?

Thanks, Graeme

Ok great thank you !
That’s a shame but thank you for the information.
Yes my dad (Irish) and some uncles, aunts and more, but then I’m not sure if I will manage to work while studying or to have time for it. Thank you deeply for taking your time to respond.

I was wondering, when you ask me if I had any family in the UK was it for another way to possibly respond to the criteria for the maintenance loan or not at all ?

Sorry, of course.

For someone to be a family member they'd need to be a parent/grandparent, or sibling. Regarding your Dad, can you please confirm his nationality?

Thanks, Graeme

Ok, he is Irish (ROI) and I don’t know if that also counts, but I have a step sister (British).

Hi, he resides in London in zone 2 (Lime House).

Okay, the family member needs to be a UK national, so if your Dad is Irish this won't apply to you, unfortunately.

Just to clarify, this still means you'll be entitled to the Tuition Fee Loan, but you won't be eligible for the Maintenance Loan.

If you have a university that you're interested in it's worth contacting their Finance team to see if they can offer any help and advice.

Thanks, Graeme
