I want to study vet med but looks like im going to be rejected again after a gap year

Hi,
I studied bio, chem and a third subject at A-levels. My predicteds were A*AB ( A in bio and B in chem) and i didnt recieve any offers. I got ABC ( B in bio and C in chem) at A-levels and i am now taking a gap year. I reapplied to uni to study vet med but got rejected from notts and RVC. I was put on the waiting list for surrey and i am still waiting for Bristol. I am definitely re-sitting chem but i am not sure whether to re-sit bio. Could i make it with a B in bio if i get A in chem when i re-sit?

My problem is that it doesn't look like i am going to get any offers for this year either so i am very stuck and don't know what to do. I got an offer for biomedical sciences but i dont want to do that and i don't know what jobs i could get into with that degree and i really want to do vet med. Can anyone help me figure this out? Thanks

Just focus on the resit and make a plan for clearing! Last year Notts and UCLan were in clearing so be prepared with phone numbers to contact them. Taking another year to widen your experiences can only be a benefit too. Good luck with Bristol!

Hi @s_262,

Well done on your grades! You should be proud! 🙂

Our Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine & Surgery (BVMS) foundation year programme offers a great potential entry route to our standard BVMS programme. You'll start at Year 0, where you'll get the chance to develop and demonstrate the necessary subject-specific knowledge and abilities to participate in the progression process.

Our BVMS programme is highly competitive. To progress onto Year 1 of our BVMS course you'll need to take part in the standard application process.

For further guidance on this process and to understand how we choose our students following the interview selection process, please view the BVMS application guide.

As mentioned, we were in clearing last year but this is something we won't know until clearing opens and isn't guaranteed. Getting further vet experience is something you could look into to during your gap year. 🙂

If you are unsure about anything, our course enquirers team will be more than happy to go through your options, experience and any questions you may have relating to vet med and applying with us. You can get in touch with the team via [email protected] or by giving them a call for a faster response via +44 (0)1772 89 2400 (Option 1).

Hope this helps,
^Zac

Hi, thank you so much for your responses. So would you advice to re-sit biology too, or just concentrate on chemistry and try to get an A and in the mean-time get as much work experience as possible done? in that case my grades would be A A B with a b in bio.

You can definitely get in with AAB so unless you want to go again with both chem and biol I would just focus on chem personally. Biol is so content heavy that it may take precious revision time away from your chemistry. Although by resisting both you could get an A in biol if you fall slightly short and get a B in chem. The two Vet med offers I have are ABB with AB in either order Biol and chem. good luck and remember get all the admission phone numbers for Notts and UCLan ready for clearing. Good luck in what ever you decide
