Bio, Chem, Maths OR Bio, Chem, Physics

Hi, I am in Yr12 with bio, chem, maths and physics as my subjects. And aspiring for London medicals schools (imperial, UCL, kcl etc). I seem to score slightly better in physics in mocks over maths (which is not great) and so am confused which one to drop. Qn1: Is there any preference given by schools in application process for students choosing maths over physics as 3rd subject (or vice versa)?. Qn2. Is there any advantage for me personally (while doing medicine) in choosing maths over physics?. Any advice would be great. Thanks.

I don't think universities would have a preference. I think chemistry is a requirement, and you need another science/maths subject, which you have. I think you should focus on which one you think you're going to score better in at the end of the day. I'm not sure if either maths or physics are greatly used in medicine though, sorry!

I would say since you score better in physics go with physics. As stated previously neither is massively related to med and you should do what you enjoy. I did all four and I felt that physics was better as it developed my scientific literacy and experimental/research skills - although this was mostly due to the report which I don't think you have at A Level (I do AH as a Scottish student) so it's a bit more of a coin toss ig.

I would still say physics as it's more of a practical science and the problem solving and dealing with different variables is more closely applicable to med than oure maths but idk if that is a stretch.

Medical schools have no preference so drop maths if youre doing better in physics, especially if you also enjoy physics more than maths(?)

Thank you both. Really appreciate your inputs. I will then go with whichever I end up getting a better predicted grade at the end of the year. (which appears more likely Physics), and drop the other one.

If you have biology and chemistry (which you have) then with most medical schools it doesnt matter which 3rd subject you do (the odd one might prefer you to have maths- but that literally is the odd one). Just double check the course on unis websites to make sure.
For your 3rd- id keep the subject that you are doing better in. If that means keeping physics and dropping maths, then do that.
