Durham college allocation

Hello!! I have received an offer for English lit at Durham for 2026 and will be putting it as my firm! I really want to get into university college (like most people ik) and was wondering if I will get priority as it is my firm choice?
Obviously it’s still probably oversubscribed but any info would be appreciated!
(I particularly want to go there for their drama society so if anyone could recommend alternative colleges with good drama scene too that would be really helpful) xx

Hi! Congrats on your offer 🥳

I am in my first year studying English Literature at Durham - I love it!! I am in Van Mildert College.

Regardless of whether you firm or insure, everyone gets offered a preliminary college allocation, and yes your preferences are taken into account, but some colleges are oversubscribed (such as Castle and Collingwood), and in so the university needs to balance this out to accommodate for all. The university also has the right to change your college allocation post results day - but this is more unlikely.

I would advise to still rank Castle top, but also discover other equally amazing colleges that you may love just as much. I didn't get my top choice, but you will find once you get here that everyone loves there college no matter what!

Good luck with your studying! Ask me anymore questions about English, Durham and colleges 🙂

Do you get assigned a college before making firm/insurance choices?

Hello,

From what I know, all applicants with offers will enter into the allocation process, you don't have to accept an offer to get a college allocation. You will likely receive a preliminary or provisional college offer after receiving an academic offer, even if you haven't firmed it yet - after that you can choose to accept/reject your offer.

If you want anymore information about this process, you can check out the website regarding colleges and allocation here - https://www.durham.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/how-to-apply/durhams-colleges-and-your-application/.

I hope this helps! 😊
