Work experience help!!!!

Does anyone have any good recommendations for work experience in year 12 related to history or law. I’m really struggling to find firms that either take under 18s or most don’t reply at all! Does anyone have any advice/ ideas )

Hey, have you done anything on Forage? It’s free virtual work experience and has a lot of big firms on it, including Clifford Chance and I think Slaughter and May. A lot of firms recognise how hard it is to get work experience, so it’s a really great place to start. https://www.theforage.com

Hello,

It is very competitive to get work experience, so do not worry! Universities and employers will not expect you to have done this in sixth form for history or law courses. I studied History at Oxford for my undergraduate degree and did not have any work experience - instead I focused on reading different books, going to talks and doing history-related extracurriculars, all of which I could discuss on my personal statement!

I have now got a job to train as a solicitor at a law firm. They do not expect anyone to have work experience, even when hiring university students. They do like to see that you have attended different events and open days to show your interest in the subject, however. Look out for virtual/in-person events run by Legal Cheek and AllAboutLaw, law firms and universities aimed at sixth form students, and this will strengthen your university and job applications ) The University of Law has many, for example!

I hope this is helpful!
Layla
