Ask me anything as a paramedic science student 👩*🎓 👋🏽

Hi ! I’m Molly and I'm currently in my third year of my paramedic science degree. The course is a mixture of placement, lectures, practical sessions, and self-directed learning time. I've had a range of interesting placements so far, including care home placement, many ambulance placements, and a GP placement coming up soon.

I wanted to study this course as I had wanted to be a paramedic for many years, and the university route seemed best suited to me. As I was just out of college and not ready to face getting a full-time job yet 😆.

My favorite thing about the course is definitely the ambulance placements ! It feels like a taste of what’s to come when I graduate. No two days are the same and you learn something new every day. Although, the night shifts never seem to get any easier 🤣.

Even when I'm not out on placement, I love the practical nature of the course with a range of practical sessions and simulation facilities available to use!

If you’re thinking about applying for paramedic science or just curious about what the course is like, ask me anything !

Happy to answer questions about the course, placements, workload, or student life at BCU 👩🎓

Hey @nyimajobarteh 👋🏽

The Adult nursing interview will probably differ from the Paramedic science one, but here’s some advice .

Look into the NHS Values and 6Cs. It’s great to have an understanding of these!

I had a look into the standards of the regulatory body, for Nursing this would be the NMC.

Make sure you have a good understanding of what being an adult nurse will involve🧑*⚕️.

Have a read of any major topics of discussion surrounding adult nursing at the moment.

Show your passion for the career!

It’s okay if you don’t have previous healthcare experience, any customer/person-facing experience is great, just make sure to reflect on this experience and link it to nursing.

Best of luck with any upcoming interviews and i hope this helps 🙂

What made you choose paramedic science?

Hey @flowersinmyhair 👋🏽

I knew i’d always wanted to go into healthcare because i wanted a meaningful career. I was originally thinking about medicine but knew that i wouldn’t enjoy being in a hospital all day. I liked the freedom of being a paramedic, being out and about all day, and having the opportunity to meet and treat a wide range of patients with a variety of conditions in the community .

I didn’t really consider the apprenticeship route, mostly because i wasn’t aware of it, but both route seem to have their benefits.

Are you thinking about applying ?

I have applied for paramedic science this year

I didn't apply to BCU because it isn't particularly close to where I'm from.

Hi

Hiya @Nicole2849

The timetable can massively vary each year and each week.

In first year i could’ve been in uni anywhere up to 5 days a week at the start, this did then reduce to approx 3 days a week toward the end of the year, but times could vary. As well, we had more time in university than out on placement.

In second year it was about 50:50 with time on placement vs. scheduled university weeks. This year was quite content heavy with bioscience lectures and starting a research module alongside other things. When we were in university it was a similar layout to how it was in first year.

Third year so far has been alot less university, with more time on placement, as we have learnt most of our skills now, we just need to get the experience . On scheduled university weeks this year i’ve typically been in anywhere between 2-4 days a week.

I hope this helps!
