I got my conditional offer Midwifery RGU

Yesterday I received my offer to study Midwifery at RGU something I’ve dreamed of for years.

I’m currently completing my SWAP course at college and turning 47 this year. For a long time I regretted not going for it sooner, but now I know the timing is right.

If you’re doubting yourself because of age or life circumstances don’t. It’s never too late.

Good luck to everyone who has applied, has interviews, or already has a place.

🌟 2026 is definitely my year 🌟

Hi chezza xx

Well done you for getting a offer for midwifery at Robert Gordon university Aberdeen,
I wouldn't be worrying about your age for starting your journey as a NHS Scotland midwife because age doesn't matter as long as you are competent enough to do the job as that's what counts. You'll probably find that most of your fellow classmates at university will also be older due to career changes as well.... The older students are actually more interested in actually doing the coursework and you'll pass just the same.

When I was a NHS Scotland student midwife I had around 4 fellow students who were approaching 50 year old and started out there career changes as a student midwife and they all passed without a problem compared to the younger ones ( 17-24 ) who are more interested in clubbing and drinking over the midwife degree as most struggled with the coursework but yeah passed ( two resat and passed).

I was a older student myself when I started my journey as a midwife ( just over 26 and passed when I was 29 ), not that long ago.

You'll and love it and when you eventually get to do your first birth delivery you'll remember that for ever same as your first birth delivery as a newly qualified midwife.

Good luck with your next three years of very very hard work and placements and the various shifts patterns you'll be doing. Nightshift will be hard at first but after you done a few of them you'll start to get use to doing them.

And please remember that your age is not a barrier to do whatever you want as long as you are competent enough for the job ahead of you then everything should be fine.

Hi

Awww you are very welcome 🤗 🤗 🤗 🤗

I know the feeling you are going through as been there myself ❤️ ❤️ and to be honest with you okay the closer it gets to the starting date in September the worse you'll be as you start shouting hurry up starting date so I can begin my coursework as a student midwife but you'll soon calm down afterwards.

Glad you are committed to this because remember that you have 3 years ahead of you at university and your placements and see your placements you'll find that not everyone you'll enjoy as you do get the odd horrible placement but get on with it regardless. Just don't be afraid to ask your university course leader anything you not sure about and similar when you are on placement with asking your mentor/ supervisor or ward sister/ manager as they are there for you, you ask the register midwives questions all the time, take notes on what you do during each day at placement ( keep a pocket notebook in your uniform pocket for this).

Hi, congratulations! I’m really happy that your dream has come true. I’m still waiting for my interview for the Nursing SWAP course. Do you remember how the interview went and what kind of questions they asked? I’m a bit stressed, to be honest. And is the course very hard?
Thank you in advance for your reply.

Hey, all is fine with the interview obviously I cant share, but just be yourself. Be positive im sure you will be fine xx
