Fatal stabbing at De Montfort University
Small updates have been emerging since yesterday evening, but it has now been confirmed that a De Montfort student has been stabbed and killed. An 18-year old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

I am very familiar with this spot as a De Mont alumni. It's where I got off the bus for three years. I wouldn't say it was a particularly rough area either. Sad news.

I'm a DMU alum too, I recognise the area. It's practically right on top of campus, it was definitely one of the safer areas -- and lots of Leic was pretty rough.
Knife crime and gang violence was always pretty bad in Leic but this seems pretty severe even for the standard. Yeah, really sad news.

Deeply distressing for all concerned and I feel sure that it will be safe to say that all the regular contributors to the forum, whatever their views on the various topics under discussion, will be united in expressing sympathy to the family of this young man, to his friends and to the staff and students of DMU.
Let us hope that the perpetrator is brought to justice, swiftly and conclusively.
