Exeter , Birmingham or Leeds Beckett

Hi I am looking to study sports and exercise science and have offers from Uni of Exeter, Uni of Birmingham and Leeds Beckett. I am struggling to make my final choices. Can anyone who has studied at these unis and particularly anyone who has studied this course, offer me any insight into the course, teaching and life at the university?

Hiya!

I’m a second year student at Uni of Exeter. While I study Natural Sciences so can’t give insight into that course specifically, an amazing resource for this is our Ask a Current Student page - you can choose the area of study you’re looking into and message with someone on that course who’ll be happy to provide some insight! I’ve spotted a couple of Sport and Health/Exercise students on the platform so feel free to chat with them, I hope it’ll help you make your final choices.

In terms of general life at Exeter Uni, I couldn’t recommend it enough. The campuses are a big part of what made me choose Exeter - Streatham is more modern and bustling while St Luke’s, where I believe Sports sciences is based, is conveniently located in the city centre with a lovely historic feel and cosier, quieter study spaces. We have over 300 societies, including over 50 sports focused ones, so there’s really something for everyone to get involved in. The sports facilities are really high quality - some of the best in the UK. The teaching support and wellbeing team are amazing no matter what faculty you’re in so if you have any struggles with academic or personal matters it’s easy to reach out and find someone who can help.

Exeter is slightly more of a rural area than some other busy cities - the city centre is very social and bustling but has plenty of green spaces, cute cafes, and quaint little independent shops too. It’s got historic areas and attractions like the cathedral, the Quayside (perfect for an evening walk, and a great route for running), and the Royal Albert Memorial Museum. Equally, there’s a wide variety of shops, bars, clubs and other modern amenities which make it a really fun and convenient place to live. Of course we’re also close to Dartmoor which is perfect if you’re someone who loves to hike or be in nature! One of my favourite things about the area is the proximity to the beach - it’s only a 20-30min train journey away and is such a fun way to destress after summer exams or deadlines. There are also lots of little coastal towns and villages to explore like Topsham, Sidmouth and Teignmouth which are easily accessible by train, making for great days out.

Altogether, I’d really recommend Exeter Uni but the best way to figure out if the course is right for you is definitely to chat to some current students using the link I provided. Let me know if you have any more questions!
