University of York - Psychology

Hi! I’m thinking about studying psychology at York university. I was wondering if anyone who is/has studied there could let me know how they are finding it and what they thought of it - and if they felt it was the right decision for them in the long run.

I really want to do criminal profiling and I am wondering if York provides a useful university degree that could help me progress into masters and (hopefully Phds) in criminal psychology - and what York is like in comparison to that of Sheffield and Manchester

Many thanks :-))

Hi @libs72

It's great to hear that you're thinking of applying to York!

To progress onto an MA in Criminal Psychology, it is generally recommended you first complete an undergraduate degree accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS). The BSc Psychology programme at the University of York holds this accreditation, so it would provide an excellent foundation for further study at postgraduate level.

At York, we also offer a second-year module called Applications of Forensic Psychology which may be of particular interest if you are considering a future career in areas such as criminal profiling. You can also read more about the experience of a current BSc Psychology student with similar career aspirations.

When our summer open day dates are released, I'd recommend booking on to an open day, as they're the best way to find out more about your desired course, explore our campus and accommodation, and you can even head into the city centre afterwards to get a feel for the city as well.

I hope this helps!
