Switching courses after first year and student finance

I am currently doing an allied health profession course and am halfway through first year, but am thinking of switching to another AHP course in September. I enjoy my current course so am not sure yet if I will, but I have applied. If I do swap, I'll be dropping out of this course at the end of the academic year, because I don't want to drop out before if I'm unsure.

My first question is, will I get in trouble with student finance if I apply for funding for the other degree before dropping out of my current degree? Will they expect me to pay back right away if I stayed on the course despite considering planning dropping out? I know this sounds silly, but I'm really anxious about being refused funding.

Second question is just double checking what I'm pretty certain of, but again, I'm just really anxious about everything at the moment. I have a previous degree (not ahp). I got funding for my current degree because of the exception course rule. Will the exception rule still apply if I switch to a different exception course?

Thank you in advance. I really appreciate it.

Hi there. Do you have the name of the new course and university you are looking to apply to? Thanks, Leah.

Hi Leah, it's midwifery, and I've applied to a few unis.

Hi Werka_Zal,

As long as you are not registered in that field, we will disregard your previous study. If you complete the year and don't withdraw earlier than the original end date of that year, you should not have an overpayment, as overpayments only occur when you leave the course part way through.

Thanks, Clare
