Chat to an Urdang Student 💃

Hi everyone!

Are you interested in studying at Urdang? Do you want to hear from someone who's currently studying there? If so, this thread is for you 😊

Hi my name is Jenna, and I am a current Urdang student! I thought I'd start this thread as a place to chat, answer questions, and hopefully give you insight into what the course and student life is like!

Whether you're looking at the BA (Hons) Commercial Dance or the BA (Hons) Professional Dance and Musical Theatre course, feel free to ask me anything.

💬 You can ask me about:
The difference between the two courses
What the audition and application process is like
A day in the life of a Urdang student
Life in London
And many more!

💬 In the meantime, I have some questions for you!
Which course are you leaning towards?
What made you interested in Urdang?

❗Want to find out more about the program? Go check out our website!

I look forward to chatting with you!

Best,

Hi, just heard my daughter has a place for September. So excited. We’re in London this Friday and wondered if there was anyway we could have a look around the college? Offer was from self tape so we haven’t visited yet. Thanks so much 🙏🏻

My daughter also had an offer from self tape just before Christmas so was in the same position. I emailed admissions and she was invited to an offer holders visit which was really good, it was only a couple of hours but really gave her a feel for the place 😊

Thanks, we have booked one of these. Just saw somewhere they had changes the course for this year, don't suppose you know anymore details? Thanks (also need to find the accommodation thread, think I saw somewhere on here there were a couple of different campus's). All very exciting, has your DD accepted? x

Hi, they didn’t mention any changes during the talk at the offer holders day and we had quite a long Q&A session! I know they are also doing a new commercial dance course for the first time this year but other than that they just spoke about the first year being an equal split between all 3 things and then picking a specific pathway during year 2.
She has accepted with Urdang but not through UCAS yet as she has only just got all her UCAS offers through, would be really useful to know if the course is changing before she makes her official UCAS decision 😬

Hi there,

Congratulations to your daughter! 🥳 In terms of the Musical Theatre course, I have not heard of any changes that will be happening. There is however a new commercial dance course starting in September, so their might have been confusion around that.

Here is the Accommodation Page, Urdang students have the option of living in Cross Court House, Arbour House, or Romano Court. They are all within a 10-15 min walking distance from Urdang! Once you accept your offer on UCAS, you will receive an email shortly after about applying for accommodation. Unfortunately the accommodations only offer tours during Open/applicant days, so the next tour won't be until 28th Feb, however when you are in London, I highly recommend checking out the area of each accommodation to see which area you like best!

Let me know if you have any other questions 😄

For those of you who are new to this thread, and potentially new to Urdang, here is a brief overview of everything you need to know about the course!

Urdang is a renowned performing arts academy based in central London. They have two performance courses, BA (Hons) Professional Dance and Musical Theatre, and BA (Hons) Commercial Dance, which is commencing September 2026. Both dance courses are three-year programs, and run Monday to Friday. On the MT course, students train in singing, acting, and dancing, whereas the commercial course is geared more toward commercial and street styles. More information about the courses can be found here.

Urdang is a part of City, St George's University of London, so students have access to their facilities, such as City Sport (the gym), the library, study spaces, and many learning resources. Furthermore, Urdang has an incredibly diverse and supportive community. With many international students, Urdang is a welcoming space for all.

The building is a 15-minute bus ride from the West End, and is close to Angel and Farringdon Tube Station. Students have access to three student accommodations through the university, this includes Cross Court House, Arbour House, and Romano Court. All halls are within a 10-15 minute walking distance from Urdang. Information about accommodations can be found here.

Let me know if you have any questions! 😄

Hi Jenna, my daughter is now in 1st year and loving it. I was hoping you could shed some light on end of year shows please as I need to book flights! She has given me the July dates but I was wondering will she be performing in all of the 4 days or is it split? Thanks in advance for any info

Hi there,

Students are levelled during induction week which is the first week of first year. They have levelling in ballet, tap, and singing, and from there will be placed in a 'set' that best suits their experience level. This ensures that everyone is training in the right environment, and at the right pace for them! Regardless of the set (aside from tap) everyone learns the same syllabus, however different sets may learn it at different paces. Throughout your years at Urdang there are opportunities to change sets if you feel the level is too easy or difficult, so nothing is set in stone 😄.

In first year there are 5 singing classes: two tech, one rep, ensemble singing, and in second term ATS and singing privates are added. The amount of singing classes in second year depends on the Track that you choose.
Track A is 50/50, so you get an equal amount of singing and acting as you do dance.
Track B is 75% dance, and 25% singing and acting.
Track C is 75% singing and acting, and 25% dance.

Overall as it is a musical theatre course, students are trained in singing just as much as dance, but you can choose which Track you do in second year!

I hope this answers your question!

Hi there,

I'm so glad to hear your daughter is loving first year! Yes of course, summer show dates are July 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th. There are two different shows, and students are put into either cast A, B, C or D. Cast A and C perform the same show but different days, and same with B and D. Typically Cast A and B will perform on Thursday and Saturday, and C and D will perform on Friday and Sunday. This is most likely how it will run this summer as well. Unfortunately your daughter won't know which cast she is in until May, however as soon as she knows, then you can then determine which two days she will be on.

I hope I was able to help, let me know if you have anymore questions!

Thank you. I got an offer from self tapes and so havent been able to ask questions. Im trying to decide where to go and its so hard. How does the levelling work, do we perform a tap and a ballet for them to assess and sing solo?

Also do they not level jazz or is everyone strong in that anyway, sorry, its just I like fast pace in dance and want a lot of singing, not just dance focused.
