AQA Spanish A-level

hi! I'm thinking of taking Spanish A-Level and I was wondering if anyone who takes it could share their experience with taking it + how it helped them.

I already know I'm taking Physics and Maths (thinking of doing an engineering degree + patent law in the future!) so I wanted to assess my options for my third subject

I took a while back now, but it was a nice and relatively calm A-level. I admittedly had an advantage in that I have lived in Spanish-speaking countries for over half of my life, but still, a friend of mine taking Spanish was also of the opinion that Spanish was definitely on the easier side in the spectrum of A-level difficulty. It was also a nice break from my other science A-levels as language lessons are always more interactive and funny for languages (at least in my experience). Nobody in the class struggled too much with the independent research project, which was also kinda fun to do and we all had a go at presenting in front of each other a handful of times to make sure we got it as good as it could be.

The hardest thing was to prepare for the essay papers - you'll have to watch a movie and read a book in order to write essays on them. It is vital that you know both the movie and the book inside out, so we watched, rewatched, read and re-read everything multiple times over, which sucked the fun out of the movie and the book a little bit. But luckily we still did other fun things in class, and it was a highlight of my time in sixth form.

Knowing languages is very good in life. I've gotten two jobs purely because I spoke Spanish, so I'm definitely of the opinion that nurturing a healthy interest in languages is very useful. I'd just quickly double-check some engineering universities' entry requirements to make sure they don't want three science A-levels, and if you're OK just taking Physics and Maths, I'd go for Spanish

I see, it sounds like it was a lot of fun! I also enjoy spanish very much already and I feel it will be useful to me as well

I’m not too sure what type of engineering I want to go in now but I know most require maths and physics at the very least so I am very much leaning towards Spanish, which I think I will do well in too

thank you for sharing!!!
